A day at Karmê Chöling

A day here begins and ends with meditation in the shrine room, with meals, afternoon tea and the shared work of the house in between.

The household keeps a simple daily rhythm, and programs keep their own schedule within it.

Community practice

Morning and evening practice take place in the shrine room. Each session begins with chanting; you are free to join the chants or simply sit.

Rota

Between sessions, everyone shares the work of the house: dishes, the common rooms and roles in the community's practice sessions. Rota is part of the practice, a way to carry the awareness of meditation into what we do.

Through the year

The household keeps the year's observances, and guests staying here are welcome to join them: Dön season and Losar, the Tibetan new year; Parinirvāṇa Day and Milarepa Day; Shambhala Day; the Sadhana of Mahamudra on the full and new moons; days of nyinthün, sitting practice from morning to evening; and Midsummer's Day, Harvest of Peace, Children's Day and the garden's planting and harvest.

Local sangha days and work-practice weekends open the land to practitioners nearby. Reception can tell you what falls during your stay.

Quiet and devices

Some common areas of the house are kept free of electronic devices. Please keep them so. Before you come, see what to bring.
