Ways to give

Bequests and planned gifts

Remember Karmê Chöling in your will, or plan a gift of property, insurance, a retirement plan, an annuity or securities.

A bequest is a gift to Karmê Chöling made in your will. It is the simplest planned gift and the most common, and it is deductible from your estate taxes without limit. Before you choose a way to give, talk it over with your own attorney, accountant and financial advisor.

Our name and address

Karmê Chöling Shambhala Meditation Center, a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Gifts are tax deductible to the full extent the IRS allows.

369 Patneaude Lane
Barnet, Vermont 05821

Other planned gifts

  • Property. Tangible property that is useful to the center or readily sold may be accepted, under our gift acceptance policies, and in some cases real estate, including a remainder interest that lets you and your spouse live there for life.
  • Life insurance. Give a policy you no longer need, or name the center as beneficiary of all or part of it.
  • An IRA or retirement plan. Name the center as beneficiary of all or part of it. A charity pays no income or estate tax on these, while most plans other than a Roth IRA are taxable to a person who inherits them.
  • Gift annuities and trusts. A charitable gift annuity, a charitable remainder trust or a charitable lead trust gives you or someone you love income and a deduction now, and the center the remainder later.
  • Securities. Stocks, bonds and mutual funds can be given, and their full market value may be deductible.

Other ways to give

Gifts of securities and gifts your employer matches are arranged with the Development Coordinator.
