Changling Rinpoche was born in 1977 in Kalimpong, India. At the age of ten, he was recognized by His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Penor Rinpoche as the principal tulku of Changchup Ling Nyingma monastery of Central Tibet. He is a lineage holder of the Rechung Kagyu. The Rechung Kagyu is part of the Marpa Kagyu, based on the transmission of Milarepa’s disciple Rechungpa, who received the formless dakini teachings from the rebirth of Marpa’s son Tipupa. Rinpoche is also a lineage holder of the Nyingma Northern Treasures (Changter) tradition, which is based on the terma of Rigdzin Godemchen. Changling Rinpoche entered Shechen Tennyi Dargye Ling Monastery in Nepal, where he received teachings and transmissions from His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche until the latter’s parinirvana in 1991. When Rinpoche was 12 years old, he entered the Shechen Shedra and completed his studies at the age of 20. He has continued to teach at the shedra while studying with Trulshik Rinpoche, Rabjam Rinpoche, Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, and other teachers. Rinpoche has been in charge of teaching the monastics the ritual traditions of the Shechen lineage. Rinpoche has also taught extensively in Australia and North America, within our Shambhala mandala since 2004. Changling Rinpoche teaches in English. His humour and joyous confidence are infectious and inspiring. He is an excellent translator and has been working with the Nalanda Translation Committee since 2008. all photos of Changling Rinpoche © Marvin Moore. All rights reserved. www.marvinmoore.com
