Teachings & Practices for our Turbulent Times-Weekend

Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche gifted us with two extraordinary terma (treasure teachings) made to measure for our turbulent times – the Sadhana of Mahamudra “which quells the mighty warring of the three lords of materialism”, and the Shambhala teachings on how to create enlightened society. How can we practically apply these teachings to our lives in a world racked by ecological devastation, grotesque inequality, deadly conflict, and crippling insecurity – a world in which (to quote the sadhana) “the three lords of materialism have seized power… and the river of materialism has burst its banks,” a time of “hell on earth” in which “sadness is always with us and unceasing depression fills our minds”? How can we face those grim realities squarely without burying our heads in the sand as we are wont to do, and how can we ourselves overcome those seemingly overwhelming obstacles? And what practical guidance do the Shambhala teachings offer to enable us to take real steps on this earth to create enlightened society? How, in particular, do the four Shambhala “dignities” that arise from meditation practice offer direct insight into the most pressing needs of our time – ecological, societal, economic, and political, as well as intimately personal? We will explore those questions more intensively and in greater depth through daily practice, discussion, and watching videos of the Vidyadhara’s Sadhana of Mahamudra and Shambhala teachings. Those teachings, from the 1970s and early 80s, are truly a treasure – more urgent, applicable, and relevant than ever to our world today. Two Schedule Options: There are two options for this program. Arrival & Departure Friday, please arrive 3:00 - 6:00pm for registration. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. The program will officially begin at 7:30pm. On Sunday, the program will finish by 5:00pm.
