Taking the Refuge & Bodhisattva Vows Online and In-person We are overjoyed to welcome Ringu Tulku Rinpoche back to Karmê Chöling bringing his unique blend of learning, practice and warmth to our community. This program is ideal for both seasoned practitioners and newcomers interested in exploring or reconnecting with the foundational concepts of the Buddhist Refuge Vow and Bodhisattva Vow. Rinpoche will give several talks, guiding participants in deepening their connection to these fundamental principles. He will offer attendees the opportunity to formally take or reaffirm these vows. First-time vow-takers may take the Refuge Vow only OR both vows together during this retreat. Those wishing to explore the Refuge vow further before making a commitment, are advised to read Ringu Tulku's book Refuge: Finding a Purpose and a Path . Karmê Chöling will also hold an online information session with vow-takers prior to the event, time TBA. By discovering, nurturing, and stabilizing our commitment to these promises, we contribute to the greater wellbeing of all. Taking the Refuge Vow [Image: re-link pending] The Refuge Vow The Refuge Vow is when a person formally becomes a Buddhist. It also forms the foundation of our lives as Buddhists. With the Refuge Vow, we take the Buddha as example, the Dharma as guidance and the Sangha as support for our path. Regardless of where, when or from whom we receive the vow, all Buddhists stand together on this common ground. The Bodhisattva Vow The Bodhisattva Vow proclaims our commitment to becoming enlightened and manifesting wakefulness in the world, with the motivation that we will better be able to benefit all sentient beings. A bodhisattva commits their life to cultivating these qualities for the highest benefit to both self and others. The path of the Bodhisattva is often referred to in the Shambhala teachings as the path of a ‘Warrior’ - not one who makes war, but rather one who steps into the world with bravery for the sake of helping others. Please join us for what is sure to be an insightful, lively, and deeply beneficial presentation of the Refuge and Bodhisattva path from a contemporary master who brings much clarity and joy!
