Rota
Rota, the shared work of keeping Karmê Chöling: what it is, who takes part, and how exceptions are made.
Rota is the shared care of Karmê Chöling: tidying the community spaces, washing the dishes, and taking roles at the shrine during meditation sessions. It can be seen as chores, or as a chance to carry the mindfulness of sitting practice into daily life.
Who takes part
Everyone here offers in some way. Dish shifts and shrine roles are shared by everyone, staff included, and a staff member usually gives no more than five hours a week. Rota is part of our commitment to the community and to the home we share, and we hold one another gently to showing up for our shifts.
Exceptions
- If your circumstances keep you from the usual tasks, talk with the Head of Personnel or your program's rota coordinator.
- Someone with a significant health condition is excused from assigned rota and welcome to help in whatever way they can; please talk with the Head of Personnel.
