Enter the sacred world of Tibetan Buddhist thangka painting in this immersive one-week course. Led by master thangka painter, Lama Tsöndrü Sangpo. this contemplative art form weaves together creativity, devotion and tradition and is considered a path to spiritual awakening. Thangkas are a traditional form of Tibetan Buddhist painting, which dates back 2500 years. Usually they depict a Buddhist deity, sacred scene or mandala. In Buddhist practice, they are used as objects of devotion or as an aid to spiritual contemplations. They are a source of blessings to all who see them. In their construction, cotton is used as the canvas, with the paintings mounted on a textile background. They generally have a silk covering and are kept unframed and rolled up when not on display.
